The situation around the Lachin corridor is an obstacle to the advancement of the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Karen Donfried, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, told about this to the Armenian service of Voice of America.

According to the high-ranking American diplomat, along with the humanitarian situation, that is why Washington is actively making efforts to have the Lachin corridor reopened.

Assistant Secretary of State Donfried stressed that the blockage of the Lachin corridor was a priority in the recent telephone conversations of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Secretary of State called for the immediate reopening of the corridor and emphasized the importance of unimpeded commercial and private traffic through it, the US is very concerned about the situation of the local Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the US will continue to be engaged and put pressure regarding this situation, Donfried added.
